More stuff no one cares about (Best albums of 08)

Welp, I saw another one of those Best Albums of the Year threads pop up on the Something Awful Forums and since I still haven't been able to get an account due to my continuual lack of credit card, I decided to make a blog entry again for once. Listed from best to worst.

1. Dr. Dog - Fate
Definitely one of the most feel-good, sing-a-long albums of the year. I just love their sound and the lyrics on this album were really amazing too. I gave We All Belong a listen too, and this is just such a huge improvement.
Stand-out Songs: The Breeze, The Rabbit, The Bat And The Reindeer, From

2. SOIL & "PIMP" Sessions - PLANET PIMP
What PimPoint lacked in energy, this made up for it. I think I like this one better than Pimp of the Year, even. Really amazing all-around, the album never gets boring. Also, the album cover is just amazing. XD
Stand-out Songs: GO NEXT!, Fantastic Planet, Sorrow

3. Sigur Rós - með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust
I've seen a lot of people say that there weren't any memorizable moments here and although I disagree with that, I still have to say that I guess that's one of the things I like about the album - it feels much more "connected" than their previous albums. The songs all belong together.
Stand-out Songs: Gobbledigook, Festival, Inní Mér Syngur Vitleysingur

4. The Mae Shi - Hlllyh
Stand-out Songs: Run To Your Grave, Pwnd, Kingdom Come

5. MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
Stand-out Songs: Electric Feel, Kids, Time To Pretend

6. Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Stand-out Songs: He Doesn't Know Why, Your Protector, White Winter Hymnal

7. Because Of Ghosts - This Culture Of Background Noise

8. Bon Iver - Fore Emma, Forever Ago
Stand-out Songs: Skinny Love, Creature Fear, Blindsided

9. Cloud Cult - Feel Good Ghosts
Stand-out Songs: Everybody Here Is A Cloud, When Water Comes To Life, Hurricane and Fire Survival Guide

10. Hauschka - Ferndorf
Stand-out Songs: Blue Bicycle, Eltern, Freibad

11. Fuck Buttons - Street Horrsing
Stand-out Songs: Ribs Out, Sweet Love For Planet Earth, Bright Tomorrow

12. This Will Destroy You - This Will Destroy You

14. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
Stand-out Songs: M79, I Stand Corrected, Walcott

15. Colugo - Hello Yellow Fellow (go google it, it's free and AMAZINGLY FUN)
Stand-out Songs: Make us all happy :-), Advanced friend-making techniques, Rally point

Also Worth Mentioning:
The Accidental - There Were Wolves, Starflyer 59 - Dial M, Shearwater - Rook, sgt. - Stylus Fantasticus, She & Him - Volume One, Haste The Day - Dreamer, Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs

Highly anticipated albums that were kind of disappointing but then after listening to them with a different mindset some time after they came out were actually quite good:
1. Flogging Molly - Float
2. Wolf Parade - At Mount Zoomer
3. Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple (ok "quite good" is an overstatement, but it's definitely not BAD)

Best EPs:
1. Final Fantasy - Spectrum, 14th Century / Plays To Please
2. Animal Collective - Water Curses
3. Hearts of Palm - The Bridge (also free, google it!)
4. The Wedding - The Sound, The Steel
5. Emery - While Broken Hearts Prevail

Worst Album of the Year:
Showbread - Anorexia / Nervosa
eughhhh I had a huge rant written on how much this sucks but who cares, right? Basically, this double album was boring, too srs (compared to their previous albums and awesome zombie flick inspired lyrics), too Nine Inch Nails-ey, too high-concept and not even Reese Roper guest starring on one song could save the albums. I tried hard to like them as this was one my most highly anticipated releases of the year, but no. It just sucks sucks sucksssss.

BLEH!
